Lemonade. I don’t think there is anyone who has not had this simple & refreshing drink at least once in their lifetime. I literally survived on it during my childhood as the tropical weather of Mangalore called for a cooling beverage irrespective of what season it was. Summer, winter and sometimes during the monsoons too (when the sweltering heat on the days that the rains took a break made life impossible). My mum who always made the best tasting lemonade (which we simply called as lime juice) still enjoys it everyday. Perhaps her immunity is stronger than mine because she gets her daily dose of vitamin C. To be honest, I am lazy to extract the juice and make some juice. If you have granulated sugar with you its a nightmare to stir the concoction to get the sugar to dissolve, no?Many people I know buy or make powdered sugar, handy for such occasions. Others make sugar syrup that easily dissolves. Something that is still a practice in Mangalorean homes. Traditionally juice concentrates used to be prepared at home. Sherbets made out of kokum, lime, mango and sometimes tender coconut water are served to guests. I must hunt for all those lovely recipes and I really hope to be able to do that soon and share the recipes with you here
This summer I decided to try out many beverages as this was one category on my blog that hardly has any recipes. We in the Middle Eastern countries (and most parts of India) are still experiencing the peak of summer. We have to bear the heat for a few more weeks and so while I flip through my recipes to find you a brilliant, lip-smacking drink recipe, why don’t you check these out?

Thanks Shireen. I add a pinch of salt to counter the lemony taste of the lemonade, a trick I learnt at my cousin’s coffee estate where lemons are a plenty!!
